Himalayan Queen on top at Yarmouth

HIMALAYAN Queen proved too strong for her rivals in the 7f handicap at Yarmouth on Tuesday afternoon.

The daughter of Poet’s Voice, owned by Samantha Dare, was stepping back up a furlong in distance having been running over six furlongs in recent weeks.  Held up in the early stages by jockey Andrea Atzeni, Himalayan Queen always travelled strongly but was trapped behind a wall of horses with just a furlong to run.  It was touch and go whether the gaps would come but when they did, she picked up well to lead close to the line, winning by three-quarters of a length.

William said: “The step back up to seven furlongs has helped and although it didn’t look as though she would get out, when she did she has won well. Her form had tailed off a little so as a result she had been dropped a couple of pounds and this has also helped her get her head in front again.”
