SMOKEY STORM was a gallant second as he stepped up on the form of his Brighton maiden win in conditions class at Goodwood on Thursday.

Once again he finished his race well under jockey Alan Munro to indicate a sixth furlong will be within his compass.

Trainer William Jarvis said: “It was a shame that he wasn't quite able to make it back-to-back wins but he nevertheless ran very well. I felt he had improved again from his Brighton run.

“I hope he can find further improvement for his next start which is likely to be the six-furlong Woodcote Stakes at Epsom on Derby day (June 7).

“He is a good solid horse for his owners, the BK Partnership, who I hope will continue to have a lot with him.”

Smokey Storm - improving with every run

On the same day both Mataram and Mumbleswerve ran at Great Leighs. They both performed respectably without winning, although Mataram once more the found slow early pace far from being to his liking, while Mumbleswerve was a touch unfortunate with the splits failing to come for him.
