GREAT LEIGHS opened to great media trumpeting last Sunday, becoming the first new British racecourse for decades.

While it was a significant day for racing, so it was also for William Jarvis. Thanks to Mumbleswerve, the Phantom House trainer kept up his record of sending out a winner on every Flat track in the land.

The four-year-old Mumbleswerve secured a 14/1 success at the expense of stable-mate Mexican Venture.

William said: “I was delighted with Mumbleswerve's win as it meant that along with John Gosden, we are the only trainers to have recorded the achievement of having a winner at every Flat course.

“Mumbleswerve probably benefited from having been taken to Great Leighs the previous Sunday. Jean-Pierre Guillambert gave him

a very patient ride and he came through to win a shade cosily by a neck.

“Mexican Venture was the unlucky horse who was done no favours by Mumbleswerve but again he ran a very promising race and I hope he will get into the winner's enclosure sooner rather than later.”

Mataram was also in action and ran well in suffering a narrow reverse by a neck in a competitive mile-and-a-quarter handicap.
