| CLERK’S CHOICE put up a super display at Sandown this afternoon as he powered to success in decent handicap company.
The Bachelor Duke gelding mustered a first win at the ninth attempt, coming with a concerted challenge down the straight in the 9f handicap.
Sent off an almost unconsidered 20/1 chance from a good high draw, Clerk’s Choice was held up in midfield by a patient Jim Crowley.
The jockey was content to bide his time with his mount nicely switched off, never letting the pace-setting group steal a march.
From the three-furlong marker, Crowley switched out Clerk’s Choice who responded well. He kept finding and finding as he wore down rivals to hit the front approaching the final furlong.
Through the closing strides the Michael Banks-owned gelding drew away from the pack and came home with two and a half lengths to spare.
Trainer William Jarvis said: “I’m thrilled to see Clerk’s Choice win. He has been unlucky in both of his last two races so he deserved to get his head in front.
“I’m very pleased for his owner Michael Banks and it is nice for the yard to have a good winner at Sandown. Hopefully, he is a horse who can keep progressing through the season.”
