Transformer bids to go one better

SECOND sucks is a well-known phrase in sport and after two narrow defeats at the end of last week William was entitled to echo such a sentiment.

Last Friday saw Al Jaadl suffer a second fractional defeat on the trot when going down by a short head at Lingfield.

Then 24 hours later it was the turn of Transformer to finish in the runner’s up berth at the same venue.

William said: “It was very poor to have two more seconds. If there’s one thing I dislike immensely, it’s finishing second.

“Hopefully, both horses will have a chance to go one better soon. Indeed, Transformer, who ran so well in defeat, is entered to run over a mile and a half back at Lingfield this Saturday.

“I think he should stay well and so we are hoping the step up in trip from a mile and a quarter will suit.”
