ROCK A Doodle Doo showed great tenacity to land a competitive 1m4f handicap at Ascot on Saturday.

The son of Oratorio, ridden by Martin Dwyer, was stuck behind a wall of horses turning for home but the gaps came up the straight and he picked up well to come between runners.

He hit the front at the furlong pole and galloped strongly to the line to win by three-quarters of a length.

William said: “I was delighted with Rocky as he showed a great desire to win from what looked an impossible position.

“He is clearly an improving horse who, all being well, will head to the Duke of Edinburgh handicap at Royal Ascot.”

"It was a great day for all connections and I was so pleased that Wendy Dio, who lives in LA was at Ascot to cheer him on. However it's such a shame that Neil Warnock, who got the syndicate together in the first place, has not been at the racecourse for any of his victories to date."
