THE Doodle Doo partnership were celebrating on Monday as their horse Rock A Doodle Doo opend his account in convincing style at Wolverhampton.
Two of the partners, Geoff Meall and Gavin Millar, were at the track to watch the nine-furlong handicap with the son of Oratorio sent off favourite after finishing second a week earlier.
Jean-Pierre Guillambert held him up before delivering an unrelenting challenge from 2f out.
Rock A Doodle Do burst to the front inside the final furlong and did the rest in good style, securing a 6/5 success by two and a half lengths.
He is now entered up for a mile and a quarter handicap on Saturday at Lingfield where he would run under a 6lb penalty.
Trainer William Jarvis said: "Rock A Doodle Do won quite nicely and showed us that he stays well. I would hope that he will once again give another prominent show on Saturday."
Twenty four hours earlier and Cuthbert is due to compete in a 7f handicap at the same Surrey venue.
The form book tells us he was last of four on his previous outing but he went down by only three lengths and the race didn't exactly pan out as hoped.
William said: "On the face of it, he was slightly disappointing last time but he couldn't get to the front - and that is important to him.
"Judged on his New Year's Eve victory, he is a horse whose preference is to make the running, so let's him give another chance."
Overall, William is rightly pleased with the way the all-weather campaign has been going this winter. The stats say Phantom House are eight from 29 over the past couple or so months, indicating the string are in good heart.
The trainer commented: "I am delighted with the way things have been going and it is a testament to the hard work of the staff during the cold spell that the horses have been running with such credit. Let's hope our good run of form can continue in the coming weeks and months."
