THE MUMBO returned to winning ways this afternoon over a mile at Lingfield.

It was a second win for the daughter of Bahamian Bounty, who’s only previous victory had come over course and distance in January 2009.

Jockey Alan Munro settled The Mumbo, a 14/1 chance, in midfield where she travelled well.

On entering the straight only the 4/1- on favourite Abbondanza was moving better but The Mumbo responded well to Munro’s urgings and stayed on gamely to get up in the shadow of the post, winning by a head.

This was a gutsy effort from a filly who had been off the track for 130 days. She showed a good attitude and thoroughly deserved this success.

William said he was delighted to win with The Mumbo and  it was a good team effort. "It was a relief after two near misses at Doncaster on Sunday when Rock A Doodle Doo ran well to finish third and Head First was very game when just beaten into second place. "
