HEATHERBIRD got her head in front for the first time when taking a 1m2f maiden at Lingfield on Wednesday afternoon.

The daughter of Shamardal, who runs in the colours of Mr Abdullah Saeed Belhab, has hit the crossbar of many occasions this season and thoroughly deserved this breakthrough success.

Jockey Eddie Ahern settled Heatherbird in a nice rhythm just behind the leaders. She travelled powerfully and was the only horse on the bridle turning for home.

She cruised up to join the leaders a furlong from the finish and quickened up well through horses to win cosily by half a length.

William said "I'm delighted she managed to get her head in front and I thought Eddie Ahern gave her a great ride.   Now she's done it once I hope she'll get into the winning habit!"
