HEATHERBIRD will bid to lose her maiden tag in a seven furlong maiden at Chester tomorrow.

The daughter of Shamardal was a little fresh when finishing a good fourth on her first run of the season at Newmarket.

William has been pleased with her progress since that race and hopes she can be competitive again.

He said: “Thankfully she has a very good draw in five which is essential at Chester. Jim Crowley rides and although it is a good race I hope she can run well.”

Last Saturday the racing world was left stunned by Frankel’s emphatic display in the Qipco 2000 Guineas.

Willliam reflected: “I was delighted for my old boss Henry Cecil. It was another great training performance and to win the way he did was sensational.”
