GREY GRANITE provided trainer William Jarvis with his first turf winner of 2009 with a taking victory in the 1m2f maiden at Haydock.

The son of Dalakhani made all under Joe Fanning who was able to dictate from the front and quickened away from the field in impressive style to score by seven lengths.

Dr Jim Walker’s colt was sent off the evens favourite following an unlucky fifth at Thirsk last time out.

Jarvis said: “It was great to get off the mark this season and I was delighted it was for Dr Jim Walker.

“We were a little disappointed with his run at Thirsk but a bit of cut is crucial to him. He is a nice horse and did it well today. We’ll see what the handicapper does next.”
