TRAINER William Jarvis reflected this morning on a busy week that has just passed.
On the runners front it was great to see Grey Granite return to the track after almost a year off and run so well to finish fourth at Windsor.
William said of the son of Dalakhani: “I was really pleased with his run. He has come out of it really well but he probably wants the ground even softer than it was.
“He should come on for the run and should be ready to be very competitive when he runs next time, probably over further.”
William was also pleased with Stoical, who made his debut in a hot-looking maiden at Kempton on Monday.
The son of Galileo was doing all his best work towards the end of the mile contest and will have learnt plenty from the experience.
William added: “Stoical ran a very satisfactory first race. The best thing was that he behaved well and he should improve for the run especially when upped in trip.
“We had a busy time over the Guineas weekend with James Bowditch staying on Friday night and then John Kelsey-Fry dropping in to see his Holy Roman Emperor two-year put through his paces on the heath the next morning.
“Obviously the 1000 Guineas was very unsatisfactory with the field splitting into two groups and I felt for my former boss Henry Cecil when his filly, Jacqueline Quest, was demoted in the stewards’ room.
“On Tuesday I had my annual game of golf at Woburn. It is always a great day which is kindly sponsored by Tattersalls and although myself and Tom Goff failed to trouble the judge it was still a great privilege to play on a championship course.”
