CUTHBERT made every yard a winning one to provide a victorious end to 2009 for William and his Phantom House team.
Jockey Joe Fanning broke swiftly aboard the Bertolini colt in the first division of the 7f maiden at Lingfield and proceeded to control the race from the front.
The thrice-placed Cuthbert got off the mark at the ninth time of asking, doing so in convincing fashion.
Fanning judged the pace to perfection aboard his willing partner, who found plenty when asked for an extra effort down the straight.
Cuthbert soon surged clear and delivered a 7/1 success eased down by two and a quarter lengths.
