CUTHBERT steps up to a mile today for a handicap at Lingfield where he has already finished third on two occasions in 2011.

The Canisbay Bloodstock-owned gelding has been drawn four of 10 for the 3.30pm race and has claimer Kieren Fox aboard.

He ran into an improver last time out at the Surrey course but was far from disgraced and should hopefully give another bold showing.

Trainer William Jarvis said: “It doesn’t look the strongest event that he has run in recently and the draw has been kind to him.

“It suits his style if he can get to the front and he seems in good form. He is the joint top-weighted in the race but Kieren Fox takes off a handy 3lb.”

One of Phantom House’s 2011 stars Aquilifer is back in action this Friday when he contests a 1m handicap at Lingfield.

He completed a quick-fire hat-trick with a win at 7f last time, but is eased back up in distance for his latest assignment.

William said: “On Friday Aquilifer bids to extend his winning sequence to four when he runs in the mile handicap at Lingfield.

“Only four runners have been declared and the horse remains in good form, so I would be hopeful of a good run.”

Sunday sees an A-W card at Kempton where Private Equity faces a stamina test.

William outlined: “We are stepping her up to two miles and it remains to be seen whether this is in her favour.

“But she has been unlucky in all three of her runs this year and she is in good order and should give a decent account of herself.”
