A chilly week at Phantom House

WINTER has descended upon Newmarket with a vengeance making the daily routine in a racing yard very difficult.

With taps constantly freezing and yards having to be regularly salted just getting the horses exercised is an achievement.

Despite this, life at Phantom House has continued much as normal and all the runners were able to take up their engagements.

William said: “The weather has been very inclement and although we have managed to get the horses out every day it has not been easy.

“The heath men from Jockey Club Estates have done a great job keeping the all-weather canters and walking grounds safe and we are very grateful.

“We have been very quiet on the runners front but I was pleased with Private Equity and Aquilifer who were both placed at Wolverhampton earlier in the week.”

Along with runners it is also important to keep the yearlings going during the cold weather.

William added: “With all the yearlings now ridden away it is important to keep them up to their work. This bunch have been very straight forward bar the odd hairy moment and they are now all cantering on the Town Canter.”
