AQUILIFER helped Phantom House’s 2011 campaign start with a bang when victorious at Lingfield a fortnight ago.

The three-year-old gelding secured a first career win when taking a 1m handicap.

Tomorrow William Jarvis’ charge heads back to the Surrey course for a similar race, seeking to further enhance his reputation.

The trainer said: “The handicapper has been fairly harsh on Aquilifer, putting him 6lb for his win. But I hope that there is still a bit of improvement to come from the horse now that the penny has dropped with him.

“Private Equity runs earlier on the same card. She will line up in the mile and five furlongs handicap.

“Reunited with jockey Joe Fanning, I hope that she will be able to regain the winning thread.”

Cuthbert is in action on Friday at Lingfield in a 7f handicap. He only went down by two shorts heads over course and distance 16 days ago, so is entitled to once again be competitive if replicating that form..

William said: “It was reassuring to see him coming back to something like his old self on his last run. We hope Joe Fanning can take the ride.”

The following day sees Diverting entered for a mile and a quarter handicap at Lingfield. She has been allocated a mark of 59 for her handicap bow after three starts in maiden company.

William summed up: “The race certainly represents her best chance to date.”
