WILLIAM JARVIS is expecting to have his first runners of the new season at the end of next week.

Jockeys Alan Munro, J P Guillambert, Jamie Hamblett and Michael Tebbutt have been in on recent work mornings and most of the older horses are now in fast exercise.

Saturday May 2 looks like being kick-off day with Kay Gee Be on target for a valuable heritage handicap at Newmarket staged over nine furlongs.

The Guineas Festival could also be the starting-point for progressive filly Moon Sister, who may contest the Group 3 Dahlia Stakes.

That weekend sees action at Thirsk, too, and William has earmarked the Thirsk Hunt Cup as a target for Dr Jim Walker’s useful gelding Wasp.

The same owner’s Grey Granite also has an entry on the same card in the 1m 4f maiden. William is also planning to enter him at Salisbury over the same distance on the following afternoon, so there are options for the son of Dalakhani.

He said: “We’ve worked a good few of the horses now and I am happy with the way they are progressing.

“Most of the older horses have galloped and it will be interesting to see how our first runners perform. It’s all systems go now and it would be nice to hit the ground running!”

William has had several welcome visitors of late – and expects a few more over the Guineas weekend.

Owners Jamie Bowditch and Tony Foster were both in town during the Craven meeting to keep up to speed with the activities of their respective horses.
