HERE’S news of a career-first for William Jarvis: no, our trainer hasn’t gone through the card at Kempton (that’s next week…).
Instead, the master of Phantom House is poised to race a horse twice in two days.
Admiral Cochrane, successful in a 7f handicap at Lingfield yesterday, is scheduled to line up tonight in a similar race at Kempton (6.15pm).
Dr Jim Walker’s Noverre colt was returned the 4/1 winner on his latest start and has been in the frame in each of his last six races.
William said: “Admiral Cochrane’s win at Lingfield was the yard’s first of the year, so it is great to get off the mark for 2010.
“I was delighted with the horse’s performance and he has now won twice this winter. I’m very pleased for Dr Jim, who has four other horses in training with us, including the highly promising Oriental Scot.
“Admiral Cochrane runs back tonight and I think it is the first time in my career that I’ve run a horse twice inside the space 24 hours or so. Let’s hope our decision is vindicated..”
It was almost a double on the day at Lingfield as Rock A Doodle Do was going on strongly at the end of the 1m handicap, having been taken wide off the bend.
The Oratorio colt, in his first handicap, finished second in the end and suggested he can go one better in the near future.
William added: “I was thrilled with his run as he put up a much improved showing.
“He slightly disappointed us a two-year-old but he needed time to strengthen up and also the step up in trip helped him yesterday.
“Unfortunately, his owners were not able to make it to Lingfield with the majority of them wisely enjoying warmer climes.
“We will consider running Rock A Doodle Do at Wolverhampton over nine furlongs next Monday, all being well.”
